Cardiology Follow-Up

Today Dylan had his first follow-up visit post-op. His cardiologist was very happy with his progress. His heart sounds good and regular. There is still a small murmur, but that will always be there until he has a total valve replacement hopefully a few years down the road. He had a chest x-ray, which reminded him why he hated being in the hospital so much. He definitely let us know that he has a good memory and doesn't like x-rays! His lungs look pretty clear, although there is still some fluid around the right side. He will continue to take one diuretic medication to help get the fluid out from around his lungs. We will be going back in a few days for another x-ray. He weighed in at 11 lbs. 7 oz. today, which was his weight before the surgery. Needless to say, a few days without anything to eat and open heart surgery will make you lose some weight! But he is gaining it back again and hopefully will continue to gain more and more.

Dylan's eating and sleeping are still pretty much all over the place. His body is still trying to figure out how it should work again. The surgery totally changed the plumbing in his heart, and so there are a lot of new things to get used to. All in all, he is doing and looking really good.

This little guy is one tough cookie!
