First of all, since it is December let me say
Merry Christmas!
And thanks to all of you who have kept Mr. Dylan in your hearts, thoughts or prayers over the last couple of years. We have felt of your love and have been so blessed. As I look back on this past year, I amazed at all that has happened and at where we are now, compared to where we were a year ago. Dylan has come such a long way and I'm so grateful that Dylan has had a desire to work hard and progress.
We are now taking a break from physical therapy, since Dylan is fully able to get around on his own now. He is a great walker, and tries to run a bit some times. He can squat and get back up, he can get to a stand without the help of furniture, he has good balance, he can navigate the stairs well in both directions, and he can get himself up on to chairs and couches without help, despite his short legs. We are so grateful for his physical therapist and all of the time and effort she put into Dylan on a weekly basis helping him to learn these important skills.
The area that we are focusing on now is Dylan's verbal skills. He babbles and sings and can say a couple of words, but mostly doesn't talk much. We are working on that though. He knows some signs, and he has been making more attempts to say words lately. One of the problems is that our house is full of 5 other people who are too helpful and get him what he wants without him having to say anything. That, and Dylan will do things when he is ready to do them, not when you want him to do them. He definitely has a strong personality in that cute little body of his! So we are hoping that over the next couple of months we can help him with this and that we can make some progress with it. Then we will see what his pediatrician has to say about it during his 2 year check up and whether or not he believes Dylan needs speech therapy. Crossing our fingers!
But overall we are so happy at where Dylan is right now and are so thankful to have him in our family.

Oh my gosh! He's adorable. So glad he's making good progress!
ReplyDeleteHooray for cute boy Dylan! My boys didn't say more than a few words until after 2. From 2-2 1/2 is when they took off. I think once a kid's switch is flipped for a certain skill they usually get it so fast it's amazing! So glad things have gone so well with him. Merry Christmas!
