Well, we got through Dylan's pre-op day. We left the house at 7:30 am, dropped kids off at two locations, traveled in the rain up to the hospital, had a full day of appointments and testing, traveled home in rush hour traffic, picked up the kids and got home at about 5:15 pm. It was a full day, and we are exhausted!
What we accomplished today:
*ECHO (ultrasound of his heart, and yes it is hard to do on a wiggly baby)
*Measurements were taken (he's up to 11 lbs!)
*Surgeon meeting - we had a lengthy discussion about the surgery and learned a whole lot (our heads are swimming still)
*Chest X-ray
*EKG test (pictured below - also hard to do with a wiggly baby, hence the bottle)
*Physical examination by the RN
*Anesthesia to discuss what will happen in the operating room and the risks
*Pharmacy to get an ointment for Dylan's nose that we have to apply every day until the surgery as well as special soap that we have to bathe him for 3 nights prior to surgery
*Lab to have his blood drawn
Dylan woke up very happy this morning and smiled all the way to the hospital. He smiled through about half of the ECHO until the tech started getting shots of his heart from the stomach angle and the neck angle. He had his happy times and also very sad times today, especially when they drew his blood. But overall, we're happy that we got to meet the surgeon and some of the other people that will be caring for Dylan. We feel very blessed that there are so many great people we get to work with and that we are comfortable with them.
Reality is definitely hitting us now. Being back in a hospital setting is a little too familiar for us. Dylan is actually experiencing heart failure right now, and this condition without the surgery would continue to stunt his growth, and then possibly cause lung failure and many other problems down the road. I think Justin and I both wish we could go through this for Dylan. He has no idea what is about to happen to him.
In short, we are very nervous, anxious, and we know this will be very difficult. We are also full of hope. And we know that this special little boy's life is in the Lord's hands.

so many blessings, but wow, what a rough time for this poor little guy! We're praying for you!
