Yearly Cardiology Exam

We've made it another year, and it was time to go in and get Dylan's ticker checked today. I appreciate him getting older for many reasons, but one is that he is starting to really understand some things about his special heart. We've had some good conversations about what happened in the first year of his life, and he understands at some level. He was excited to go in and have his appointment today, which is a far cry from the first 3 or so years of his life.

He's getting bigger.....he told me that his feet could almost reach the end of the table now....with the help of a big fluffy pillow!

Those stickers and wires aren't scary anymore!

Weston tagged along today and was so interested in that sticky sticker that he wouldn't look at me for a picture.

I wasn't planning on Dylan getting a full blown echocardiogram today, but that's what the doctor ordered. The boys were excited to watch some of "Despicable Me" while the tech got some good images of Dylan's heart.

And then we got to see the doctor. Here she is listening to Dylan's lungs.

All good news today! Dylan's heart is holding steady. The numbers from last year have remained constant, which means that the right side of his heart is not dilating any more than it already has (a very good thing). When we see that it is dilating (getting larger because of the valve that is allowing a back-flow of blood), then we will need to look at replacing the valve. But that is not in the near future. So for now, Dylan can just go on being completely normal, which is wonderful news for all of us!

Dylan is loving his first grade class and learning so much. He loves to invent things out of cardboard boxes and tape and whatever else he can find. He loves being silly and finally learned how to ride his bike without training wheels this summer, which was a huge milestone for him. He learned that he can do hard things! We love this boy to pieces and are so thankful that he is in our family.

To all of our friends and family who have kept Dylan in your thoughts and prayers over the years, we love you and thank you. God is so good.
